The Second Penang Secessionist Movement(1953 - 57)

This article is remind us about past history which is very arae mention school textbook syllabus. This article is stated as is without any alteration and pick from the source in government servant book for their test and promotion.

Two changes had taken place when the above movement began:
Tunku Abdul Rahman had replaced Dato Onn as President of UMNO.
The tide had turned against the communists though the shooting war was not over yet. The movement was taken up by a group called the "Queens Chinese". In 1953, the question of a merger of the Federation and Singapore was being mooted. But the Queen's Chinese wanted a revival of the Straits Settlements. Things quietened during 1954. But the issue came up again in 1955 when the Alliance swept the elections by 51/52 majority. In 1956, Tunku Abdul Rahman as Chief Minister began the Merdeka talks in London. The setting up of an independent constitutional commission with August, 1957 as target date for independence, got the Queen's Chinese moving. Tunku Abdul Rahman made it clear that there was "no fear of anyone's" will being imposed on the settlement, that independence would be meaningless if the settlement of Penang was left out and this sealed the issue.

There is also event of secession movement in Kelantan & Johore prior to independence. This history is still a lot of people is not aware as it not mention in school history book.
